RCWL-0516 Microwave Radar Motion Detection Module
The RCWL-0516 module utilizes Doppler radar technology to detect object movement within its range, with a detection distance varying between 5 and 9 meters. This makes it an ideal choice for security systems, automation, and smart home projects.
Main Features:
- Technology: Microwave sensor based on Doppler effect
- Detection Distance: 5 – 9 m (7 m typically)
- Power Supply Voltage: 4 – 28 V DC
- Current Consumption: 2.8 mA (typical)
- Output Voltage (OUT): 3.3 V (max 100 mA)
- Radio Transmission Power: 20 mW typical, 30 mW maximum
- Operating Temperature: -20°C ~ +80°C
- Storage Temperature: -40°C ~ +100°C
Operation:
The module continuously emits radio pulses and measures the response time. If a nearby object moves, the response time changes, triggering the OUT pin. This pin will generate a voltage equal to VIN upon detection.
Available Pins:
- VIN: Power supply input (4 – 28 V DC)
- GND: Ground
- OUT: Active output signal upon motion detection
- 3.3 V: Constant voltage output (max 100 mA)
- CDS: Disables the sensor if voltage < 0.7 V
Customizable Changes:
- CTM: Adjusts the reactivation time (default 2 seconds). Increasing the capacitor value extends this time.
- R-GN: Adjusts the detection distance (1MΩ → ~5 m)
- CDS (Photoresistor): Allows sensor deactivation during the day. It can be installed on the board or externally via the header.
- R-CDS: Internal pull-down resistor to disable the CDS light sensor.
The RCWL-0516 module serves as an effective alternative to traditional PIR sensors, offering a longer range and detection through thin obstacles.
